Re: Showing bite
When I first started showing I waited for the judge to ask me to show the bite. This one day the judge decided she wanted to do it herself. She tried to open my girls mouth and couldn't. My girl never moved a muscle just clamped her mouth and refused to open it. Then the judge put her arm around my ...

Re: Don't know where to turn-Plz help!
I have had chows for over 30 years and have not found skin probems to be a big issue in the breed. If you are bathing your dog and not getting him completely dry it is very possible to get hot spots. If you are not getting him completely combed out and there is a lot of dead coat that can cause skin...

Try blowing on his nose or mouth, he should close his mouth.

Re: Showing bite
I don't know if they've showed me the "correct way"...its all new to me. This is the first chow I've wanted to enter in conformation. There is another lady who comes to class with a chow. She's very nice and she's showed me how she shows the bite. Maybe you can explain the correct way to ...

Re: Showing bite
Rorys dad is right, it takes practice. I would use a high value treat, something he loves. Maybe chicken or liver. Have they showed you the correct way to show his bite at class? You want to be very gentle and treat just as soon as you do it. Even if he just shows you a little, reward him. I always ...

I like to give chicken or liver. They also get cottage cheese and yogurt. The only biscuits I buy are Old Mother Hubbard Classic Chick'N'Apples Biscuits Mini Baked Dog Treats.

Re: Dog food could be making my chow sick :(
Could it be the medication making your dog sick? Anything is possible so it could be the food. I would suggest that you don't give Bear tap water anymore. Using filtered water decreases problems with infections. Been there and done that. LOL!! Hope you find out the problem and Bear is feeling better...

Re: My dog, Mimi bit my dad and now he seems hostile against
You have been given some good advice. I would add that it would be a good idea to take him to the vet and have a checkup. I would do blood work and thyroid. Until you find another answer can you put Mimi in a crate or in a room behind a gate? Maybe if you can keep them separate for a short time your...

Re: Should I be worried
Loki was diagnosed with low thyroid. He has been on medication for three weeks now. He is very lethargic and hard to wake up. When we call him he does not respond and sleeps soundly. We go in for another blood test in a week but I am concerned. I thought the meds would perk him up. His appetite is ...

Re: New member!
Thank you Laura! I'll def look into it. If you don't mind me asking, what brand and/or dosage do you use on your Lucy? I'll have to ask the vet about it. Louie's stiffness is pretty... bad, especially in the morning, and while not as apparent, is still visibly present throughout the day. Anything t...

Re: Hacking/gagging type cough. Occasional regurg/vomit? Adv
After Louie takes a drink does his water look slimey or foamy? If you put your finger in the back of his throat does it come out with a white foam on it? The area I live in is bad for allergies and this is what we see in the dogs. Very common for them to vomit bile during this time. Sometimes they g...

Hi Lgnay, Welcome to the site! I wanted to let you know that in September of 2012, we received our cream chow from D&M Farm from a litter from Lila and Teddy. They have a three year guarantee on all of their dogs, with a full replacement of the dog, and for a good reason. While our chow, Louie, ...

And yet again, guy 612 shows his serious inability to do any type of investigative work. It would be laughable if not just disgusting. Ok, so let me see why am I on here posting this time. Oh yes YOU dragged me on insinuating that someone else was me and outright lying. So yes I'd say I had to good...

Re: Puppy Buyer Beware!
Anyone looking for a puppy needs to do their homework and make sure you are getting what the breeder promised. When you ask the breeder about health certificates make sure you see OFA certificates. You can go to offa.org and put in the sire and dams name and find out what testing has been done. If ...

Re: 3.5 year old Chow, aggressive to strangers.
The first thing you need to do is get a crate so that when someone comes to the house you can put your dog up and not worry about him biting. You have to be sure that he does not get the chance to bite again. The next thing is get a copy of Pat Millers "The Power of Positive Dog Training" ...
