Re: Introducing my precious Patience!
Patience was a beautiful girl and I truly understand how her loss affects you. We lost our Mimi in late January to stomach cancer. The house was too quiet and I started a search for another chow girl. We soon found Reba at Chowland Rescue of North Carolina and drove 1000 miles round trip to get her ...

Mimi the Katrina Rescue
I read the forum frequently but rarely post. Our Mimi was first introduced to this forum in June 2007. In December 2005 Mimi was rescued by the SPCA in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. In April 2007 we adopted her from a no-kill shelter in Lafayette, LA after losing our first Chow mix to kidney ...

Re: Microchip...Yea or Nea
The shelter we adopted Mimi from microchipped her before we could bring her home. She hasn't had any problems with it. A hand scanner at the vet's office verified it works properly. Since Mimi is a Katrina rescue I feel better knowing the microchip gives her a chance to return to us should we get se...

Re: "You don't want a Chow Chow. They're not nice dogs."
We have had 2 chows. The first came to us as a stray puppy and had to share her home with 8 cats. Absolutely no problems. The second was adopted at approximately 5 years old and moved in with 5 cats. Again, the normal adjustments but no problems. And I agree, find another vet. I would have doubts if...

Mimi has had a busy year so far. She played in the snow, had to wear a hillbilly costume, relaxed with little friends, and had her portrait done by my mother. Enjoy the pictures. Fred,
A beautiful tribute to your Chewy. May he be playing with the other Chows who have been loved and passed on ahead of us.

Our chow girl goes with us. We usually go camping and she enjoys the new environment and walks. She is a great traveler and enjoys meeting new people and dogs.

Re: Benny has moved to the Rainbow Bridge
We met Jerry, Benny, and Lady at Bama's Chowfest. Benny was so laid-back and not bothered by all the other dogs and people. You could tell he was content with his life. Our condolences for the loss of such a gentle dog.

Re: Questions about adopting adult chows
I'm sorry for the loss of your chow. I can only speak about our 2 female chows. The first girl, Meka, was a stray puppy about 12 weeks old. Her personality was the typical aloof, not so friendly chow. She was fine with my husband and I, but rarely sought attention from our guests. She did not care f...

Re: Tent camping advise
Barb, We switched from a tent to a Scamp 5th wheel (19') fiberglass camper about 4 years ago. Even though we had a large tent and slept on an air mattress my body just wasn't up to it anymore. Since hubby loves to cook we always had to carry a lot of cooking supplies. We have been known to cook a hu...

Re: Tent camping advise
We tent camped with our first chow for 13 years and then moved up to a small camper. Meka loved it. We had her in our sight at all times because some wildlife don't take kindly to sharing their territory. Keep a clean campsite and be sure to store any human and dog food, tooth paste, deodorant, and ...

Re: Transport help needed Louisiana to Missouri
Since highway transport hasn't worked out, Hannah needs to fly from New Orleans to St. Louis. The weather should be perfect this Monday and Tuesday and Deanna is asking for help to make this happen. A crate and transportation to the airport will be handled by Hannah's foster mom Angie. We need more ...

Re: Transport help needed Louisiana to Missouri
Vicki and I had volunteered to help transport Hannah last weekend but it was canceled due lack of transportation up the road. Vicki is no longer able to help and I can only go to McComb, MS this Saturday. We have been unsuccessful in collecting enough funds to fly this puppy to St. Louis, MO. Can an...

Re: Transport help needed Louisiana to Missouri
Sherill, Thanks for the offer. Vicki and I are also willing to donate towards the flight. If we could get a couple of others to donate we can make this happen. Vicki and I talked last night and we want to help this chowgirl. This weekend was best for us but the route wasn't completely covered. If we...

Vicky, The day I was sewing and fitting the costume Mimi was acting like I was abusing her. A good friend of ours was visiting that day, and normally Mimi doesn't have anything to do with him. He became her savior and best bud! The same friend and his wife were at the rally with us and she remained ...

We adopted Mimi 2 years ago and she is the joy of our lives. Below are some pictures I wanted to share. In case she escapes from her foster home you may want to have her microchipped with their contact information. Once you return it should be easy to revert the contact information back to you.

Re: Animal Planet wants a Chow Chow Story!
Sherill, I would love to have all those beautiful chows together again. I'm sure we can drag along Vicky with her girls. Bear in mind I have no desire to be on TV but I would enjoy sharing Mimi. Several of those chows were rescues so there is bound to be a few stories among them. I have several of M...

Re: Moving back to the states
We visited the Mississippi Gulf coast 2 weeks ago. They have done a really good job with the clean up. Of course you still see lots of empty slabs, buildings that are waiting for renovations, land for sale, etc. But the beach is clean, drainage projects are in the works, new businesses, homes and co...
