Re: Dandelion (embedded collar) update
Dandelion came home today!!!!! They kept her an extra night to keep an eye on her incision. She is very uncomfortable and exhausted but her breathing is MUCH improved and she is still swollen so it will continue to get better. I think this surgery will work since it is a different method altogether....

Re: Searching for breeder in CA
I realize that you are looking for a breeder, but if it is a dog that you are ultimately looking for then please try your local shelter. Right now there are lots and lots and lots of chows in shelters close to you. Many are PUREBRED and most of them will not make it out alive. You have the opportuni...

Re: Hip Brace Experience
Unfortunately, the disc in her back is what's causing the problem. She got a 2 week anti-biotic shot and anti-inflammatory meds. If not better by Saturday, the vet will phone in script for steriod shots. No hip brace will help. Thanks for your responses.

Hip Brace Experience
I have a 14 year old beagle/shepherd mix. Some time in her past (she was a stray) she had a pin placed in her left knee and the top of that leg bone was removed so she doesn't have a normal hip socket. The muscle in that leg was lengthened to compensate for the difference. She also has an enlarged l...

Re: Now that Berkley is gone...
When we lost our chow Maya I was devasted. We had adopted her with her "sister", a shepherd/beagle mix and her sister missed her a lot too. I cried every day for her for the first 6 months, then almost every day for the next 6 months. But that didn't stop me from realizing a month after Ma...

Re: Chow Rescue Youtube Video
Sandy, my son does enjoy making his movies, that's for sure. He'll definitely do a follow up video and since he does enjoy the amenities here at the homestead, I think he'll consider the "fee" paid in full! Great idea about making your video a PSA! Actually the ASPCA has used Dandy in an A...

Re: What happened to "Lumpy"?
He's very handsome! Dandelion wouldn't survive a young playmate. He'd run her ragged but I will spread the word and link the post to anyone who would be a good fit for him. I don't know how bad off he is but I would be happy to share any info I can about Dandelion's health issues associated with the...

Re: Chow Rescue Youtube Video
Hey it's me, Dandelion's mom. I just wanted to say that I watched your video over and over and over and it's beautiful and inspiring. I'm sending it to all I know. It's amazing that I stumbled on it almost 2 years after her adoption. We adopted her after we unexpectedly lost our rescued chow-collie ...

Re: What happened to "Lumpy"?
Thanks for all the wonderful comments. I should have mentioned that Dandelion's recovery is a direct result of the loving and professional care she recv'd. from the ASPCA/Bergh Mem. Hospital, especially Trish who came in on her day off (Sunday) to see that we were a good fit for Dandelion. I know Da...

Re: What happened to "Lumpy"?
dandy pic full body.jpg We adopted Dandelion 5/6/07 from the ASPCA. I found this topic by accident and thought it probably wasn't too late to add a pic., even though it's from about 6 months ago! She is just like her name, delicate but tough. She has Laryngeal Paralysis so her throat is surgically ...
