Getting on a bit!

Taking Shadow to the vet this morning for his annual booster and check up, the vet is warning us that Shadow could be approaching his final years, he is only 10! (but we did read somewhere that Chows may not live to a 'ripe old doggy age' ?) He is going deaf, he is restless and follows us around mor...

7 year birthday

Our two boys are now 7 years old, going well.
One (Nipper) has got the dreaded hip dysplasia but is going well provided he remembers to take his tablets. When they stop to work, then the time to start worrying.

Happy birthday Shadow and Nipper! :D :D

Edited from 'Guardian ' newspaper. Are chow chows the most stupid dogs in the world? Ian Sample, from The Guardian Thursday November 13 2003. Not quite, but they are certainly up there. This week, the papers reported that a chow chow from Bispham, Lancashire, was badly injured when it leaped from a ...

You can also get a spring that fits between lead and collar (or harness)....this helps a lot..takes away some of the strain.

Of course, eventually we are hoping for a really well trained couple of black Chows...that goes without saying!

Bring on Ceasar Millan!

As a chow has been used naturally for pulling sledges in the past, just wondering if in the wintertime with snow, anyone here ever tried this out with their chows, pulling a sledge, or in any weather perhaps a 'doggy cart' :?: We are thinking of training ours to go to the supermarket to get the week...

how high can they jump?

Just wondering how high do you reckon a healthy adult chow could jump?
Not really known for their agility, but they can have a bit of power and I think they could suprise a few people!

So...a four foot or 6 foot fence in garden!?...lol

Dry shampoo?

Has anyone ever used dry shampoo on their chows? if so what do you think of it, does it work just as good or is a good old soak in the tub with the bubbles best?
on the subject of grooming, what sort of combs/brushes would you say are best?
