Re: My girl had a grand mal seizure

How is your Chowgirl doing? Is she eating? My Chowboy had a seizure. The vet suspected a brain tumor but also found a large mass near his lung in an x-ray. The oncologist said there was probably a brain tumor and the lung mass was suspicious...they could do tests but it was over 7 days since my boy ...

Re: Chow Life changes

Life is strange without our Shiloh girl...I keep expecting to see her waiting for me at the baby gate when I get home - now it's just "the boys". Feels weird having extra time in the morning because I'm not having to give her medication and hand feeding her plus the extra 20-25 minutes it ...

Re: Chow Life changes

Shiloh took her morning walk with daddy on Monday. She did really good. She did plenty of sniffing and ate some grass. As usual, I had to hand feed her - she ate a lot. Yesterday morning, I found her laying down in the kitchen area - not her usual place to sleep. I could tell right away that she was...

Re: Chow Life changes

 Shiloh's vet renewed her prescription through December. She is going to the groomers every 4 weeks as her incontinence is making it necessary. She cannot stand on surfaces such as vinyl floors - her legs go out from under her. I purchased doggie diapers per a friend's recommendation. I will se...

Re: Chow Life changes

Shiloh's walks seem to be more challenging for her but she loves her walks none the less. Yesterday she came out to the backyard to be with the rest of us and she took a nose drive :-(. Had to pick her up and get her steady. Her deramaxx prescription needs to be renewed but the vet says she needs a ...

Re: Chow Life changes

What a fun day for Chow Chow Fest!! Shiloh was a trooper and was happy to be a CCF16 participant. She managed to do a few "walk abouts" to check out other Chows. We are very proud of our Chowgirl!! She went into snooze mode for the 2 hour drive back home. Once home, her two "brothers&...

Re: Chow Life changes

Just a couple of days before the 10th Annual Northern California Chow Chow fest. Shiloh is getting groomed tomorrow. It's a special appointment - so glad the local groomer is willing to work with us. (We have stopped vaccinations - so we set up an early appointment before other dogs come in.) Shiloh...

Re: Advice about adopting a rescue

Frisco and the potential rescue need to meet a few times to see if they will get along. When Nahkohe passed and we got a GSD puppy, Shiloh did everything to stay away from the pup. A year later we rescued an ASD/Chow mix. We did take a chance with adopting without the ASD meeting Shiloh. He was post...

Re: We lost Loki today

:( from my experience, it will be a long time before the heartache will ease...as you know it was just a few weeks after my Chowboy passed that we adopted a GSD puppy. A puppy requires a lot of attention and in some way that probably helped to distract me from my sorrow...but sometimes I felt resent...

Re: Chow Life changes

this weekend (Sunday, 8/14) was a marked date for remembrance...one was for my dad's birthday - he would have been 93...and for my Chowboy having the seizure that led toward his crossing of the bridge on the 25th. Along with my daughter and grandson, we went to visit my mom this weekend. My mom's he...

Re: Chow Life changes

Shiloh's head tilt is gone \:D/ . She is eating more but is pretty much spoiled to being hand fed. Every morning she is excited to do her morning walk with Dad. The walk is much shorter and she does great to the corner house but the return trip is more challenging for her. Shiloh's back end is very ...

Re: My Chow Chow keeps getting attacked by other dogs

As you may have noted, Chows have a distinct smell. I have read that between the Chow Chow smell and the "tell tale" tail not being visible because it lies on their back versus a waving flag, other dogs do not like it and go on the offensive.

Re: My 9 month Old Chow starting to nip at strangers

I have always noted from posts, etc. that Chow Chows need A LOT of socialization. Also, Chows will figure out who is their alpha - which, in my opinion, Po has selected you. You need a qualified trainer for a Chow Chow. Most obedience classes will treat all dogs the same way - Chows don't fall into ...

Re: I need your help

Frisco is depressed. There hasn't been closure - Loki was there and then gone. For many weeks, Shiloh would lay facing the door. I think she was wondering when Nahkohe would come back through the door. Do you have any family or friends that can visit with their dog that Frisco might have played with...

Re: Salmon Oil & Coconut Oil for Chow Chow

Have not specifically given salmon oil...just fish oil to my pack. I think that for both humans and canines, coconut oil is over-rated. My Chow's coat have been pretty good - but want to say that I did not bath my Chows (and now the current pack). The groomer said that because they did not do regula...

Re: Chow Life changes

Shiloh update - her head tilt has not gone away but it is a little less severe...so my guess is that it might be a tumor since it the vestibular should have been gone by now. Her bladder "mass" is no longer there :D . Shiloh is eating but I need to hand feed her 90% of the time. Every morn...

Re: Chow Life changes

To offset the Vestibular disease symptoms, Shiloh was put on Cerenia for a couple of days. This was to help the nausea and help her eat. I was getting a bit distraught with her not wanting to eat because it reminded me of when Nahkohe refused to eat - just didn't think I could go through that again....

 so sorry for your loss...too many vets prescribe for a "regular" dog...Chows require special attention - especially with shots, pills, and anesthesia.

Re: Chow Life changes

Ugg...took Shiloh to the vet today because of a "head tilt". It could be "Idiopathic or “Old Dog” Vestibular Disease" or a tumor. Basically, our vet said to see how she does thru the weekend - improvement or no...then it is our decision on what to do.
