This "rescue" was a bonafide pet store. What rescue charges $600 for a dog that isn't even neutered?? So, they charge Ellen $600, she messes up and they see an opportunity to legally take the dog back without returning the $600 and can turn around and adopt that same dog back out at $600 o...

About canned food....

We feed Nutro Naturals Lamb and Rice right now. I have always thought canned food was about the worst thing to give a dog. Now, I'm seeing more people are supplementing it along with kibble. Have they formulated it to make it better for them?? What benefit does it have?? Any special brand/type?

Puritan's Pride, "Joint Soother".

I saw this in a post by Bama... is this something I should be giving Maggie now to prevent arthritis issues down the road???

Ummm... how can I tell if she has a fever? (( feeling silly for not knowing this!))

She's was very playful this morning, even though I think she's in a bit of pain since sometimes her tail is down instead of curled up.

I don't know what it is... it's lumpy and crusty... I'm afraid it's something that is supposed to be inside.

My husband said her belly felt lumpy in the same area when he was rubbing it a few days ago... umm, thanks for telling me dear!!!

Hernia ?? UPDATE!

I think Maggie might have a hernia. She was spayed in August and has been holding her tail down the last few days. Upon further inspection, I found something sticking out of her incision site that is all crusty. I made her an appt. at the Vet... I'm assuming she will have to have surgery again to co...

Bloat

My friend's otherwise healthy chow died abruptly yesterday from bloat. Her vet told her Chow's aren't susceptible to bloat, but I know I've read it on here. What causes it?

How-to video??

Is there a how-to video on proper brushing of Chow's?? I brush Maggie once a week, but this week, I've been diligently brushing her every day. She's leaving big clumps in the house. I used the blade on her first to get some of the loose stuff off. Well, I think I made matters worse. I keep brushing ...

Ok folks... here's what Whoopi had to say about Michael Vick... there is also video of yesterday's show. I really don't think she was condoning it, she was just saying that he was raised around it and didn't realize it was wrong... which I say, WHATEVER!! How could you not know killing dogs is wrong...

Maggie freaks out about flies! She has destroyed the wooden blinds in my front window, as well as the curtain on my back door, all in the name of fly hunting!! She was chasing a fly in the family room and jumped in the recliner, over a table, knocking a drink over, onto the couch and onto another ta...

Were you able to get the engraved plate on the rolled collars?? I assume those are only available on the traditional flat leather collars.

Possible transport...

I was just wondering if there is anyone or maybe a few people who could help transport a Chow from a shelter in the Memphis area to around the Louisville area as I will be driving from Ohio. Perhaps, I could meet someone in Louisville?? I got the call today, but hesitated to say yes until I can arra...

Where do your Chowdren sleep?

Maggie has always slept beside the bed with her head under the bed. When she was a pup, she slept under the bed, but now, of course, she's too big to get under there. She still puts her whole head under there to sleep though. It's a pretty funny sight!

Changing their name...

We might be taking in a 2yo pup, but I don't care for her name... Sugar. My mother-in-law has a dog named Sugar. Anyway, I'm wondering if it would be hard to change her name maybe to something similar like Shelby?? They both have that "shhh" sound to them. I suppose it's not a big deal and...

My mother-in-law swears by Brewer's Yeast. She has always had great success by giving her dogs a Brewer's Yeast tablet, I think every day, but maybe it's once a week. Anyway, it's more of a preventitive measure and won't help much if the fleas are already present. I have also heard to put a bowl of ...

This is probably a silly question, but do neutered male dogs still hump stuff?? Also, for those of you with 2 Chowdren in your houses... I'm wondering if 2 female's would be better or would there be too much dominance... would a female and male get along better?? Is it a case by case basis?? We have...

Well, she's just not cut out to be a watchdog. Our neighbor came over the other day. He came through the garage and knocked on the door to the house.
