Re: Could it be?

Hi again Jess: I just read this post about the rabies shot and yes......it is possible. Where we live the shot is only given every 3 years. Some vets may not tell you that they don't need Rabies on a yearly basis. The problem with a lot of the vet's is that they don't want to offer it is because the...

Re: When is enough enough?

Jess: I'm sure the vets have already done so but have you ever had Jazz on steroids? I had one of mine that had to go on steroids and antibiotics for 6 months out of the year. This went on for 10 years and no vet or specialist could put their finger on it.........then we moved and she was fine. I'll...

Re: please help me with this flea problem..

I've heard from several people including my vet, that when all else fails............including Frontline Plus, shampoos etc.............Trifexis worked. You will need your vet to give you a precription for it and I would discuss it with your vet because it also works for many other pests. If my chow...

Re: Chow Skin - Help Needed

Hello Miss V: 7 years ago I had exactly the same symtoms happen with my male chow. The dark patches, sparse hair and mood change are definently hypothyroid. Vet can take a simple blood test. My boy went on thyroid pills which he has taken every day for 7 years (he's now 10-11, best guess, he's a res...

Hi All: This subject was just recently brought up on the "Community" Section. And I read the posts on "Medical Issues" between Lobis Cunami and Chowling 1964. I believe that Chowling 1964 & Jonathanfsui are one and the same. I'm not sure about Adonis 24. But I'm definently su...

Re: MY FIRST AND LAST BEAUTIFUL CHOW

Dear Cebuana: You didn't let anyone down. I understand how very difficult a decision this was after you tried so hard to work with him. A dominent chow can be unprediable and it's hard work to turn them around plus all it takes is letting your guard down for a split second. I'm not going to judge yo...

Re: teeth cleaning

I was also very hesitant about having a dental on my 8/9 year old male and 6 year old female, but I have to say it's the best thing I ever did. I worried about it for years but now my males breath smells GREAT and he seems so much happier. I also used it as an opportunity to have his back legs and h...

Re: Concerned about Suki's legs

I'm so relieved that everything worked out well for Suki. She'll be just fine. Gracie never did need a cone however she had a harder wrap on her leg but she never did mess with it so I was most relieved when I didn't have to put a cone on her. I was also amazed at how well she recovered. Each day on...

Re: Concerned about Suki's legs

Kim: It could very well be a torn ligament. That's exactly how my female acted when she torn her ACL and I had the surgery done almost immediately because she was not using the leg at all. That was over 4 years ago now. The surgery was very sucessful, recovery time went very well and she now runs an...

This happens at my house all the time. My female Gracie has always had it and it happens often. We call hear it from across the house and we say that Gracie has "cats in her belly". I give her Zantac or Pepcid and within a 1/2 hour all is well and she's happy and so is my male chow because...

Re: Does appearence change during the summer?

Missy: My male chow is hypothroid and on medication. I go through exactly what you described every summer. He blows his coat and it's thin, almost feels like cotton candy on the sides, and no mane. But, come Fall and Winter, he's in full bloom and has a beautiful, shiny coat again. This has happened...

Re: Our puppy is finally home....

Leon is adorable and she is only 6-8 weeks old. She's a very young puppy and you may need to consider that when she was crying at 4:30 in the morning she needed to go potty. It isn't easy for such a small puppy to hold it from 11:30 pm until 7:00am the next morning. Plus when they're little they nee...

From what you've said about you female, there's no way another female will work in your home. Just because it works for some, IMO they're the exception not the rule. Two same *Ce...

Hi Janet: I know a lot of people don't like it but my 2 adopted rescues were scared to death when they came to live with us, of storms. It was pitiful and my vet suggested and give me ACE. I have alot of windows and that makes it even harder on them. I would give them each 1/2 a tablet and talk very...

Re: Glucosamine ?????

Jeff: You don't want to give Pekoe more then she needs so if you want to give both, assuming she needs 1,500 mgs of Glucosamine a day (Fosters weight guidelines on the bottle for Glucosamine are correct, I've researched that) feed 2 pills, plus 1 or 2 Sea Jerkies ( they have 250 mgs per jerky?). Yes...

Jeff, you know Pekoe best and are the best judge of what will be best for her needs. I did a lot of research before finally feeling comfortable with a product and have stuck with this one. It's manufactured in the USA and that's always an important consideration for me. I know it's never 100% guaran...

I really like the following website which gives really good information on all brands of dog food:

The site tells you what's in all the foods and the pros and cons regarding it. They have ratings from 6 star to 1 star.

My female chow gets mats behind the ears too. I think it's a problem with most chows. I try to take a comb or brush everyday if only to brush their heads and behind those ears.

Yes, the hair is soft there and I notice that the matting seems to come from scratching their ears.
