Mocha recovering very well

Mocha had her bi-lateral ccl repair last week Thurs. She was home on Friday and using all 4 legs solidly by Saturday! She hasn't walked squarely on 4 legs in almost 2 months! She is restrained (confined to her crate)but coping well ( probably due to the meds:-) and her kennel has been moved to livin...

Mocha so far

All i know so far is they called me yesterday to let me know she was OK after surgery and to call today to see what time to pick her up. I am about to go outside and try to build a ramp over the back porch steps. She has always had trouble with them (she has to back up and get a hopping start). With...

Is there any Insurance that folks like?

The topic of Insurance came up here - I'm sure it's been discussed before - Is there a "sticky" about Insurance and what has been approved and not approved? My dog is over 1 year (barely) so it would be iffy I guess if Insurance would have covered the ACL repairs (I'm guessing NO from post...

Getting the surgery

Mocha is scheduled to get surgery tmrw. I will pay off as much as we can on cash then put the rest on Care Credit. The interest is 21.99% !!! But as long as I Auto-Pay a large enough amount that we will finish paying a few months before the promotional 0% runs out we should be fine. Now to start res...

Mocha with us a Year and a New challenge!

I haven't posted anything since the new puppy photos last year. Since then Mocha and I (and the rest of the family) have completed 3 training classes with other dogs. Mocha is fully grown and a great dog. Here are some more recent photos - you can view the puppy ones by searchign for a posting from ...

TWO Torn ACLs

I haven't posted anything here in a long time. Those of you regulars with long memories will recall Mocha from my postings last year. In Jan 2007 we got Mocha as a Pup and my greatest concern was if a Chow was the correct dog for us since the breed had so many peculiarities. Now we do everything wit...

Yes we are providing Positive Reinforcers

Just got done reading some pages re: Operant Learning Interestingly enough my Undergrad degree was in Psychology - I recall hearing all this before - I just needed a refresher. We are doing too much interaction with her - that she is seeing as part of the game, pushing, yelling and pushing, trying t...

So glad I stopped in

Mocha is doing great, we are going to puppy training classes. More for the socialization but also to learn the "new" accepted way of training - WAY different then when I looped the choke collar on my lab puppy almost 20 years ago (gosh has it really been that long since I was a teen :-) Sh...

Mocha - born in 2006

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o2/grendelson123/MochainMXface2.jpg We got Mocha on Dec 30 2006 and she was "six weeks old". We think she was more like 8. Just to keep things simple we're going to celebrate her and my youngest son's B-day on the same day Nov 6:-) http://i116.photobucke...

sleeping mocha

I went back and looked - the only shots she's asleep in are when she's asleep on my non-fur boy. The rest of the time she's exploring, but in answer to your questions she seems to sleep a lot. Except when she's eating, playing, waking me up 2-3 times each night to pee and chewing on her dog toys :-)...

General clarification.

Am I reading your post wrong or are you still saying you would get rid of the puppy if he ever showed any sign of aggression for any reason? Yup , that's a misquote. We will look at any act of aggression on the part of ANY pet we had and determine what the cause is, can it be corrected, and is it w...

Just some additional feedback

The torn ear mentioned above reminds me of the tale I related to my wife about "bad" dogs. My little sister got her lip bit open and had to get stitches in her lip when we were just small kids when the poodle/pug my grandma had (brother of the 2 we had) bit her. The dog was fast asleep on ...

Finally worked out all the wheat from the chaff, settled all out concerns and we have one very happy boy (and girl) http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o2/grendelson123/MochaAle.jpg And one more recent photo of Mocha in TX, finally getting the idea that linoleum is not to pee on (although I still can...

Photos story of our new Chow (MOCHA)

Here are photos I've been promising. I cropped and reduced the file size but those on dial-up may still have to wait - Sorry:-) Mocha has only be with us a week but she is an international traveller. Orig born in MX she now calls TX home. Here are some shots of her first night with us in Mexico. htt...

cats and dogs

That is funny about your dog stalking the tail. While Mia was on the kneeler doing her best to pretend Mocha the dog didn't exist she kept waving her tail right in his face. The poor thing was driven mad with desire to play. He kept raising his paw, putting his face down, wiggling. I had to watch to...

keep em coming

Camping: Thanks for the ideas about the lakes - I live IN Round Rock North of Austin right up the road from the North shore or Lake Travis I believe it is - we'll have to check it out. I thought of the fact she was purchased in MX so the heat may be less of a problem for her - but not knowing her pa...

don't tell anyone on i'm on the cptr

My new pack leaders think I'm part cat cuz I use my paws for everything and bat my toys around just like a cat. I wave them when something excites me and I'm thinking about it. I reach for things and make my leader laugh. He seems to enjoy when I march around lifting my paws and swatting forward bef...

Other small breakthroughs

Yesterday while working I had mocha at my feet sleeping (before the crate - now she's snoozing in the office door in the crate since the crate is kinda large for the office right now) and the cat actually pawed the doors open, came in and jumped on my Kneeler chair that has a a real rough texture sh...

Brand New to Chow Owner's questions

Questions re: new CHOW. Obviously if these have already been answered well elsewhere please just include a link. This could then serve as a one stop resource for new owner questions. I have to admit - I haven't read every forum page:-) So posting a link to get me there quick is fantastic! Heat in TX...

Sorry so long to post! (and sorry this post so long!)

I did more research, more reading and read all your posts very carefully. Your posts generally made me very happy we got Mocha and I was convinced we shoudl keep her. I had to overcome one last obstacle! I called my HOA since the PetSmart trainer did let me know that the chow is one of the stigmaize...

Should probably not have gotten a Chow

I have a very young (approx 8 week?) chow puppy, female, very light tan with cutest dark muzzle. Let me tell you whole story - please don't respond with negative comments I know I made a mistake - I'm looking here for solutions. We went to MX for the new years weekend and had already discussed getti...
