Re: Behaviorist With Chow Chow Experience Wanted

Hello--I don't have a behaviorist to recommend, however, I have had rescued chows. The only method I found to handle rescues after trying everything else that you have already tried is a pronged choke collar. My Sheena (who died at 15 yrs. in 2015) barked, nipped, chased and ate doves, squirrels, ca...

Re: Northern California ChowChowFest 2018

Long lost Jennifer here-still missing my Sheena but now I have Sandy! Just rescued on June 29 and received July 5. So I'm thinking--maybe will go to Chowfest this Sunday!

Time to say goodbye to my beloved Sheena

I'm so sad. In one hour I need to say goodbye to my Sheena. She's 14+, lived an extra 2 years with the Oral Melanoma which never metastasized thank goodness due to the human dna shots of tyrosinase. Her vital signs were all OK a few weeks ago and the doctor said that was the good news - the bad news...

Re: In a quandary

I would leave it alone and see a vet who could decide what to do. Sometimes there could be an infection ensuing beneath the bump and you could spread it thru the fluid being released or it may need a needle biopsy for a determination. You can wait, check on it for a few days, since you've just notic...

Update-Sheena's Oral Melanoma-Still No Metastasis!

Sheena is doing really well at 13 years (approximately this month). In June 2013, after a dental cleaning she was diagnosed with lingual melanoma and a 1.5 cm mass at the base of her tongue was removed and then another surgery to get clean margins on the tongue and remove any and all warts (just pre...

Re: Best way to clean teeth?

My Sheena, a street rescue at 3.5 years old, has yearly checkups at the vet. I had her teeth cleaned professionally at 3.5 years, 6 years and then at 12.25 years young under isoflurane gas anesthesia only. I brushed her teeth sometimes but found getting to her back teeth were difficult. I would chec...

Re: Gone way to soon

Such a tragedy and so heartbreaking. I rarely come into the memorial section since it brings memories of my black chowboy who is gone. I have a special place in my heart for blue and black chow-chows. Please do get the blue chow female sister...at least you will have Storm's twin and it will honor h...

I love the way Chicco looks in the fence pic. How clever he was to make an entrance while you were deciding! How chowlike & chowsmart of him to make you think that you chose him when he actually decided on you! 8) Looks like all smooth chow to me and I recognize that hop in the video...I call it...

Re: Im confuse about my 4 months old chow..

Sorry to hear about your chowpup. I'm not very knowledgeable about pups but I would think if there is a loss of hair there could be a parasite or skin problem going on, maybe the chow has alopecia. In my Sheena, who is an adult chow, I didn't see any parasites on her skin and she wasn't itching so I...

I love little Storm! Welcome to the chow-chow world! I have never had a pup...I've only rescued chows, one 9 month old and a 3.5 year old. But the other vet who said to not have surgery until she is atleast 5months+ because if she has surgery too early the entropion can backfire and get worse as her face grows when she' grows older.- Rob xxxx The main problem is as this vet states...when the pup has surgery early the entropion returns...

Re: Dental appointment

Oh Wokman, I am so sad to hear this about Zoey. There is plenty of hope even if the biopsy comes back positive for oral lingual melanoma, especially if it is located only in that one spot on the tongue and is less than 2 cm. Please read my post in the Health Discussions section: http://forum.chowcho...
