Re: MY FIRST AND LAST BEAUTIFUL CHOW
It's very difficult to tell much from those videos, but in two of them he appears to favor his right rear. He may be dysplastic in his right hip. If he is it, it can be extremely painful, and he may have bitten both you and your daughter if you put pressure on a bad hip. Before you go to the extreme...

Re: MY FIRST AND LAST BEAUTIFUL CHOW
Just from what little I could see in the one video, Chocolate may have bad hips. He also seemed a little concerned that he was being stroked on his rear. Depending on what your daughter did when he bit her, she may have put pressure on his rear and caused him pain. What were you doing when he bit yo...

Re: Dried food advice please (my head hurts!)
Some of you only have 35 to 50 pound dogs, why would you want to give the dog food that was made for a great dane or a mastif? As I said, if you bothered to look at their formulas you would see they have different ones for different size dogs. They also list the weight range for each. Their medium s...

Re: Dried food advice please (my head hurts!)
I looked at the Australian Purina products and the ProPlan Lamb and Rice appears to be our old formula, and that will work well with a Chow. The Supercoat formulas are made in Australia and we have nothing like that here. The Supercoat Sensitive product has a good protein and fat content and may wor...

Re: Dried food advice please (my head hurts!)
When you only have a few to select from, you take the best you can get. The ProPlan may be better, but I am not familiar with the european formulas. If I'm not mistaken, you mentioned in different posting u'd tried proplan-select, and Blackwood. and Royal Canin is better than those two??? as the TS...

Re: I need some food help please
Have you ever considered that Barby might be allergic to something else than food too? There are many things a dog can be allergic to, not only food, but plants, herbs, acarids, etc.... You could find out with a simple blood test, and then she could be desensitized (like Coco is). WELL....YOU WILL ...

Re: Dried food advice please (my head hurts!)
As I said earlier in this topic, Royal Canin is not a good food. When Coco was eating it, she made poops 3 times bigger than now, just to give you an idea of all the crappy useless feelers they make their food with! If all you are worried about is larger poop, you don't have much to worry about. I ...

Re: Bald chow ??
Hi I am new to this site. I have a chow named "Sasha". She will be 5 in Jan. She does not bite or pull her fur out but it is a yearly ritual that seems to start in the spring and ends about now every year. When she was about l year old I took her to be spayed and they shaved her stomach h...

Re: Dried food advice please (my head hurts!)
Hi everyone! Well, Khan's 11 weeks now, and growing up fast! He's just over 9.5kg, and getting very mischievious :) I've just finished most of the IAMS puppy dried food (kibble in America?) - I've since read that it's not really very good, but I bought it the day before he arrived home, and didn't ...

Re: I need some food help please
Thanks for all the suggestions. Deuce went back to the vet today for follow up. His vet put him on a prescription diet. She said she hates to do it for the little ones, but felt he would be better off with it. His ears are better, but will have to continue treatment for another week, and then regul...

Re: I need some food help please
Poor Deuce has been diagnosed with allergies and yeast infections in both ears. He has chewed all the hair off the inside of his legs and around his paws. I went to get him a better food at petsmart, but got overwhelmed at the choices. I spent a lot of time reading labels and thought I found a good...

Re: Arthritis
I've given Deramaxx and know of others that have given it, it has not been a problem with the Chows I have seen on it.
Don't bother getting started with Synovi G3, the USDA shut down production, and they may not be allowed to produce anymore.

Are you sure the problem isn't his hips? They can go lame in the hind legs from the *Censored Word* gland, but that hasn't been much of a problem in the Chows that I have seen.
