Re: Free to a Good Home

Please keep in mind that at one year old both chows have bonded to you and to each other. Seperating them, despite their apparent hostility towards each other, will likely be extremely harmful to them.

Re: THE CHOW IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU

I was following up a link from our UK members and found this at the site d) See a dog as an appendage to the household to be left alone for long periods and occasionally made a fuss of when you have some spare time I think it sums up chows rather well. My chow would strongly disagree with this one....

Chicken Jerky

Hi, My Chow's favorite treat for the past couple of years has been the Waggin Tail Chicken Jerky. It's never seemed to have bothered him but that FDA warning this week has gotten me spooked. I tried finding American made jerky but the only thing I've found is Blue Buffalo Wilderness. It seems really...

Re: I am B***** furious!

Wow! I'm so sorry that happened to you and Maisie, Judy! I'd be livid too! And I totally agree with you Judy. Our precious pups would ALWAYS be to blame if then snapped at a child who was taunting them.... And it's all because the little snots don't know how to act because their parents don'...

Re: Bark collar?

I had to use one on my chow when he was a puppy. After a month of his not stop barking at night I could no longer take it and bought a collar. Solved the problem in two days. I never used the shock setting. I bought one that was a dual buzzer/shocker and only used the buzzer setting. If he started b...

Re: How cold can the Chows withstand ?

My chow's been out in -20F with no problem. He seemed to enjoy it. Still, he was out for no more than a half hour then comes back inside. I think any dog would need shelter in that level of cold. The thing that does bother him is if snow gets embedded in his paws. There is so much fur down there tha...

Re: Help, how to find a reputable chow chow breeder in the N

Steer well clear of the low priced ads that offer to ship worldwide!!! I very nearly fell for that one myself. It is a scam. They ask you to send the money via western union. And I did a lot of research on this subject myself, and soo many people have fallen for it. They give you a really sad sob s...

Re: Killer Queen

PETS not hunters killers..... I wouldn't go as far as to call Teddy a hunter/killer. He just thinks of bunnies as a living stuffed toy. :D My last dog was Jack Russell. HE was a killer. During the warmer weather I would get at least one or two presents left on the mat in front of the door each week...

Re: Killer Queen

Please spare us with the PETA style morality lecture. Rabbits are considered vermin where I live and are allowed to be hunted year round. My chow loves chasing them, along with the ground hogs that infest the area. Tell me, if you have rats and mice in your house do you just let them be? To me rabbi...

Re: Are Chows Playful?

I was surprised just how playful my chow is, especially considering all of the negative things I heard before buying one. I guess they're no different then any other bread. My big boy has a toy box full of balls, stuffed animals, and other various chewy toys. As others have said, they can be a littl...

Re: Julie limping and just so sad

My chow had the same problem when he was around a year old. He jumps around a lot and must have twisted his front leg. He was laying on the ground crying and if he got up he could hardly walk, so I ended up to take him to the emergency vet. They x-rayed him and say he had a small tear in one of the ...

Reverse stranger aggression?

Hi all. I have a 21 month old male Chow Chow and he has developed a bit of an odd personality quark. For the most part he is very non-Chow like when it comes to temperament, especially when dealing with strangers. He was raised by a breeder with a larger family(lots of kids and grand kids), so he wa...
