Re: does my chow have separation anxiety?

When I got Hannah when she was 16 months old 3 years ago she suffered separation anxiety. she chewed door jams, broke my front window and defecated on everything she could. I locked her in the kitchen with a child gate and she chewed through it. I felt the only thing I could do was crate her for her...

Re: What type of Collar works best for you Chow?

I too use a step in harness. I find collars pull on the wind pipe though I've never tried the martingale collar.

I attach the dog tweeter to the leash for correction. I've been using it for about 2 years now and she responds well to it.

Re: Help :( Puppy problems

I think as far as him and other dogs go you will have to teach him the word 'NO' or else he may learn it from a bigger dog. I have been blessed with the most mellowest of chows so I feel fortunate that Hannah even when snapped at by a smaller dog will just walk away. With the having accidents in the...

Re: Other dogs don't like my dog...

My girl Hannah has yet to meet a dog she doesn't like. She feels she must greet every dog we pass on our daily walks lol. The smaller dogs are the ones who are most likely to nip at her but she doesn't take it personally. She has a best friend, my sisters dog Bandit is a boxer and he and hannah have...

Re: Should i give my Chow Chow a Lion Cut?

When I walk my chow Hannah I've been asked several times why I don't shave her to look like a lion. My short answer is always that shaving a Chow isn't recommended by the experts and that their fur protects their skin. But aside from that, When I got Hannah at 16mo she came from a rough situation an...

Well I'm happy she found her confidence, lets hope she doesn't take advantage of it. My sister adopted a chihuahua from the local shelter, he was badly abused by his previous owners, he had some pretty serious hangups, He was pretty much afraid of his own shadow, he shook all the time, he woul...

Tippsysmom, I'm guessing Todd is your pom? I have a pom too named Murphy, when we go to the local petsmart he too rides in the cart, he feels safer close to me then he would on a leash. The problem with poms are they look so cute and cuddly being small and fluffy but they are the most tempermental o...

Re: Okay that's it! We are moving!

Funny story about my previous dog haylee When I was mowing the grass she would always want to play ball, well she figured out pretty quickly if she dropped her ball in front of the mower I would have to throw it out of the way. It became a game to her, that is till one day I didn't see her drop it a...

awwwww poor babies, that would be one heck of a furball LOL Hannah doesn't mind the vacuum, infact she insists on helping with the house work. No kidding, although her idea of helping whether I an vacuuming or sweeping around her is to move her legs no more then a half inch in either direction, lord...

Re: Grrrr some vets!

Thats great Auddymay that you found a vet that you're happy with. Pretty much the same with me, my whole family practically had been taking our animals to the same clinic since 1977 when we moved here but the vet we were seeing and loved retired and sold the clinic, the new people just weren't the s...

Re: CHOW CHOW/Retriever Mix and 7 year old cat

As with any breed it is good to research to know the built in characteristics of the breed(s) you are getting, with a mix breed you have 2 breeds to research but when it comes to dogs and cats getting along it isn't "breed specific" it is more how the dog was raised. My pure bred chow hate...

Re: Grrrr some vets!

Yeah, I'm glad you got a 2nd opinion. You have to be happy and comfortable with your vet the same as you are with a pediatrician. These are our babies and they deserve the best care. The first vet I took hannah too was afraid of her. Hannah has this thing where she snorts just like a pig. She usuall...

Re: life changing relocation - 14 year old chow chow

I too voted you should take her with you to DC I think finding a place for her to relieve herself is the biggest issue so here are a few ideas 1. if she can't go up/down stairs is to get one of those artificial turfs /fake grass things and set up a place she can go indoors. you would have to clean i...

She had never been to a vet before, she hadn't had any shots, she wasn't fixed etc. So a week after I got her she was in for her shots, check up and micro chipped. I also inquired ab...

Re: Love it or Hate it?

Hannah hates puddles, she will avoid them like the plague as far as rain, if she is already outside when it starts raining she will lie out there and drown if I let her but if she is inside and she needs to go out I'll open the door for her and she looks at the rain then (I swear) she say's no thank...

I agree with AuddyMay, because tragedy happens all the time in reguards to pets and hot cars I would have just thanked her for her concern and said the world needs more people like you and then left it at that. I take my dogs when I deem the weather safe and I'm only going to be a quick minute , but...

Re: So how did you know you wanted a Chow?

I'd always been intrigued with the Chow breed every since I saw one as a kid, I was curious about this dog that looked more like a cross between a bear and a lion then it resembled a canine. We had many many pets of all shape, sizes and species growing up but a chow was never one of them. As an adul...
