Re: 2 boys together?
I have two boys (from the same litter) and if I had to do it again...I wouldn't.
I did not investigate this ahead of time. I wouldn't trade them for the world, but it was definitely tough.

huffing....snorting
My Butchie has been huffing and snorting but that is not so unusual.....but now it is almost constant along with sneezing! Slight discharge from his nose and off to the docs we go (this morning). Looking online sounds like it is either an infection or obstruction. Poor guy just is feeling poorly. An...

Re: Sock thief!
Ok...you have basically described my Sundance! He is a sock thief...when I tell the folks at work, they laugh at all his antics. Yes, to the the pillows as well, but he has not taken them out of the house. When I come home from work he is lying near it in the living room. I caught him in the act onc...

Is it true about Blue Buffalo???
I have been feeding Butch and Sundance Blue for three years...now I am reading all sorts of horrible reviews and some of them could apply to myboys! I would love to know what food you feed your chows/pets, please. Research is tough because there are so many different opinions. Right now I'm leaning ...

Re: Is 7weeks too young to buy a chow?
I took my boys home when they were 7 weeks exactly....it worked out ok, but probably because I took (2) siblings. They had each other, but really....I think they should have stayed with their mother a wee bit longer.

Re: Is Your Dog a Thief?
Yes, my Sundance is a thief.....not Butchie though, lol. Butch stands guard over his "things" but once he leaves (to follow me everywhere I go), Sundance creeps in and steals one of Butch's treats and runs over to his area with it. Also, he takes socks especially, they are his absolute fav...

limping
Last March, both my boys had to treated for a tick borne disease....for the life of me, I can't remember which form. Anyway they were treated with antibiotics. Their symtoms: tired, vomiting and my Sundance limped. They took the meds for 3 weeks and they were not scheduled for a re-check (originally...

visiting dog
My son and daughter in law live about 2 hours away. Sometimes they like to stay over and bring their dog with them, of course :P Well, it gets kind of dicey and we always have to be on guard because of course...my boys don't want their things touched, unless "they" allow it. It's tough in ...

Re: Car-hopping
I've got to give my two cents on this one...lol Ok...I've got a VW jetta wagon. Both Butch and Sundance LOVE to ride in the car and they didn't have trouble getting in. Butch is alot faster, quicker and smaller, so he was always the first one in..then in comes Sundance. The car was getting really re...

Re: Vicious Fighting
Ok...I think I can be of some help here. I have (2) male chows. They are now 3 yrs old. Boy...that first year was a tough one. Vicious fights and off to the vet we went. I did everything I thought was right: throwing a blanket over them (to get them out of that ZONE), spraying water on them, etc etc...

Re: Demodex - what a b*tch!
Both my chow boys had mange as puppies. It was so sad really. There was no dipping done here. Just Demodex and frequent appointments with our vet. Many dollars and many visits later...they were cured. This happened when they were just a few months old. They are three now and so happy to say it has n...

Re: Going to the vet this afternoon......
When we brought him in yesterday, they took his temp and then did blood work. His temp was 104 and the results of the blood work showed that he did indeed have a tick borne disease/Erlichia. Another name for it is: Anaplasma. It attacks the white blood cells and some of the symptoms are fever, letha...

Going to the vet this afternoon......
Some of you might remember me bragging about "my boys" Butch and Sundance. They are a chow/lab mix. I have had labs before, so believe me when I tell you....my boys are CHOWS!! They bring me so much joy and I try to never take that for granted. I am going to the vet with Sundance today bec...

Re: Question for folks who use Flea/tick protection
I use vectra can only get it through your vet This is what I use as well, but boy oh boy....do my boys hate any of that stuff! We have tried them all, it seems and they just run around rubbing themselves on the rugs, furniture, etc. It's awful and then they lie down and pout. It must burn. I would ...

My boys do not play with "toys" but they love to carry around socks or my pillow or small stuffed animals. If I offer a ball or actually throw a ball....they look at me like I'm just a little bit crazy! They have no interest in balls..lol

Re: Dog Parks
I have mixed feelings about dog parks. When I first discovered them when "my boys" were puppies....I thought they were fabulous. It was good for Butch and Sundance but it was also fun for me!! Then slowly but surely I noticed how people didn't watch their dogs...especially the agressive on...

Re: Fast Eater, is that normal?
Wow...be careful what you wish for...lol My boys never goggle or woof their food, they prefer to stand by and guard it for most of the day. I have learned that if they don't eat it within an hour/away it goes till dinnertime. I give them a measured portion in the morning and one in the early evening...

c'mon let's hear some more stories about our beautiful furbabies. How about the way they "talk" to us. Some of you have called it "chownese" and boy it sure is cute. My two talk to each other, especially at bedtime. I would love to know exactly what's being said but I sure get the...

OMG...this thread has just made me smile and smile. I am so happy to have my boys! First of all, I love the way they smell. Never smelled another dog like this before. Next I love that they treat me with total respect and love/as I treat them. In the morning when others in the house are moving about...

guarding food
My Butchie will guard his food for hours if I let it sit there......very sad really. Neither of my boys will wolf down their food. They are very casual about eating. Butch learned the hard way...with bones and toys, that if he left them to go watch out the window, Sundance would be lying in wait to ...
