Re: They say he is the saxy chow

Great Story. My two kids are my vet's favorites as well. He and his techs always comment on how well behaved my chows are. He used to muzzle our first two just out of habit. He doesn't with Smokey and Echo. They are so good and well behaved when they go to their doctor's appointments. :)

Re: Second Chow?

I would agree with Tippsy'smom and with TyChowgirl. I have done it both ways. I had a 1 year old male who was well trained and then got a female puppy. The male was a great role model for the new puppy. It was much easier to train her. With my second set of chows I decided to get two puppies togethe...

Re: Chows and Kids-- Any Questions?

I love this thread. Here's my ferocious Echo waiting to pounce on my granddaughter Saige. I think she's really ready to pounce on that teething ring that's sitting there.

I Rescued a Human Today

Somebody sent this to me today and it brought a tear to my eye. Thought you all would enjoy it. I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY. Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberan...

Re: Invisible Fence

Hi AngelaS, We had a similar situation when we first put our chows on the invisible fence. They had their place to go in the yard and that area was outside of the newly fenced in area. We just kept taking them to another area and telling them to to "do your business" which was the language...

Re: Help with an over-protective chow chow

Hi chakasmom, I can appreciate your over-protective chow chow... as most of us can. My Smokey is the same way both at our home and when we are out. And he is very shy and quite reserved. I'm sure that there are some official training tips for this situation. I do not profess to be a trainer. But I h...

Re: Question regarding chomping at air

Hi. Welcome to the forum. I have had 5 chows over the years and all of them have done this to some degree or another. My Smokey currently does it a fair bit and I think it is because he sees something small floating around him that he wants to bite at. Another common but odd habit of this unique bre...

Re: Well it happened...and now I'm sorry

I can appreciate how "sickening" this is. I had the same thing happen with my two young chows. I had a male and female. Both the same age - came from the same breeder but were not siblings. They would start playing and eventually it would turn into a fight where they would draw blood. This...

Re: Disrespectful ?

Fred, Like all the other responses, I too can appreciate "your rambling grieving chow lover"craziness. I lost my Sierra just before Christmas of this past year. She was just two years old and her death was very sudden. I have had 5 chows in my life and I have experienced three of their dea...

Re: Should my boys always be together?

I agree with what the others have said about keeping your dogs together. Leave them together as much as possible. They will work out the separation thing down the road if it happens. How they work it through will be dependant upon how they eventually are separated. I have had two sets of chows. The ...

Re: Bunny hopping...

My Sierra did that all the time. Smokey would chase her around the yard and she would bunney hop. It really was fun to watch. I thought that it was a puppy thing and that she would grow out of it but she was still doing it when she was two. She passed away right before her second birthday (just a co...

I love this question!! What fun it has been to read everybody's responses. Some have brought tears to my eyes. All have validated the crazy obsession that I am having with my current chow Smokey. I, like many grew up with all kinds of dogs. We lived in rural Illinois and had many strays travel into ...

I've had 4 chows and they have all weighed in around 50 lbs as adults. I love the size... just big enough to romp and play but not too big for me to handle.

We have had two sets of chow pups at two different times. We bought dog beds for the first two when they were pups... they just chewed on them...never slept in them. They ended up sleeping whereever the felt like in the house. Usually the one slept on floor by front door and the other on the floor n...

I'm hoping that Kodi chased that cat away!! Awesome picture. I have a similar picture of one of my chows at that same age doing the same "Guarding of the Toilet Paper Roll". :)

I am also new to this site within the past 1-2 months. I came across it in the midst of my loss and grief. My husband and I are avid chow lovers. Together, we have had 4 of these beautiful creatures. Prior to our marriage John had been owned by 2 others. I just LOVE them!!! Our most recent pair - Sm...
