Re: Some people make me want to scream
Thanks. And I get the same crap when I try to explain it to people too. Everyone just expects every dog to accept anyone and everything and that's just not going to be the case. It drives me crazy.
I'm glad those folks seemed to understand when you explained the dangers to them.

Some people make me want to scream
I took Dixie to the dog park today with our regular group of friends that meets up there once a week. We all arrive at about the same time (we meet up in the parking lot to walk back to the dog park together) and we all leave together. There is a total of 7 people and 10 dogs (because some of us hav...

Re: Bad Reaction or Bad Situation?
Maybe it's just me, but it doesnt sound like anything bad happened. He tried to play with the puppy. She wasn't hurt, she was just scared. That's why she cried. You would to o if someone so much larger than you did that to you. He doesn't understand that the puppy is too small to play with. That's a...

Re: I'm devastated....
Thank y'all. I picked up his ashes this afternoon.... I started tearing up in the vet's office when the receptionist brought his urn out to me.... And when I got in my car, I just sat and cried for a little while.... As much as it hurts that he's gone, I feel better that what I have left of him is h...

I haven't been on in a while.... And since Jasper passed, when I've been on, I've mostly just lurked.... But unfortunately, I'm back with more awful news.... I woke up this morning to the sound of Todd choking in his kennel... He was choking up blood... I rushed him to the vet and they did everythin...

That's weird. I've posted links to this YouTube account before with no problems and I haven't changed my settings. I'll look into it.

She's a character for sure!
So, I thought this was too funny to not share. Dixie "sings" along sometimes to music in the car. Actually wherever we are when she gets the urge to sing along. Keith Urban's "Heart Like Mine" (off his "Fuse" album) is one of these sons that ALWAYS gets this response. :...

Re: Collar Issue
My chow girl, Tippsy, and my chow mix boy, Jasper both had rolled leather collars that I only used to hold their tags. They were the only collars that didn't mat or break the fur on their necks. My mix girl, Dixie, had a leather collar but my brothers pit mix puppy (RIP) chewed it off her neck and I...

Re: My heart is torn to pieces...
Thank you everyone. My heart still aches and I still can't think of him, hear or speak his name, or see a picture of him without crying. On a daily basis, I still this "gotta give Jazz breakfast/dinner", "need to give Jazz his meds", "need to take Jazz for a walk", etc....

My heart is torn to pieces...
Jasper was set free from his battle yesterday afternoon. His awful health made my decision for me when his body gave up on him... I miss him so so much. But I'll find peace in knowing he's now at peace; no more hurting, no more medications; and knowing I held him all the way to the end. He's now wit...

Hey y'all! It's been FOREVER since I've been on... For starters, I finally got a job. It's only a part time gig as a hostess at my favorite local midi an restaurant, but it serves it's purpose. Re: Thinking of getting a Chow, but have toy dog. Help?
I've never had a problem with my chows and small dogs. My last purebred girl lived with a mini poodle, 3 Pomeranians, a mini schnauzer, a min pin, a chihuahua, and a Yorkie in her lifetime. She was raised with the poodle and one of the poms. We NEVER had a problem. Now I have 2 chow mixes with 3 toy...

Thanks Siriol! I am too! Constantina, I did. Lol I'm sure our neighbors think I'm insane. Especially having lost a dog to being hit by a car after getting loose.... I've had some really bad reactions to dogs getting loose. This was the best. Because I knew as long as I remained calm, she'd come to m...

Why why why do my dogs enjoy giving me heart attacks?
Over this past weekend, my dad, my uncle, my brother, his girlfriend, and I finally fenced in (the majority of) our backyard. It's so nice being able to just open up the door and let the dogs go do their business. However, I found out really quick Tuesday that I can NOT leave Dixie alone for even a ...

My dad is finally fencing in the backyard! We've been in this house for nearly 9 years now, and my mom and I have push my dad to fence in the backyard (at least the majority) from day one. But he always made excuses (number 1 being that he already fenced in a 20ft by 20ft pen for the dogs; which the...

Happy birthday Firesong!!!
Tomorrow is also Todd's pretend birthday. If he was really 1 when we adopted him, he'll be 3; but we feel he's a bit older... Probably 6... It's impossible to tell because his poor teeth weren't properly cared for before we got him...

I've been called "crazy dog lady" by my really good friends... What you're talking about are true weirdos though... Between weirdos, like you've mentioned, and out of control dogs is the reason I avoid most "dog places". The ONLY "dog place" I frequent is Petsmart. I we...

We got snow!
First the first time in 3 years, we got snow! And I mean actual snow! In the past we pretty much got a sheet of ice over everything, not snow we could actually play in. But we finally got some!!! Dixie hadn't seen snow since she was 6 months old, but she still loves it! Jasper was 2 years old ...

Re: Need advice on fear aggression related attacks.
Quite honestly, I don't know if this problem is fixable. It's not triggered by something you can really control. To me, if seems to me that it's something ingrained in your chow (probably associating the thunder as a growl, and since your spits has fought with her in the past, she thinks she's prote...

Re: The “perfect” walk?
I never touch my purebred girl to walk in a heel possition. She was a puller (thought she was a sled dog) until she was about 10 y/o. Arthritis and old age slowed her down a bit. My mix boy Jasper has never really been a puller (except in public, he's curious). He mostly walks behind me. I think it'...

Re: Is it common for Chows to itch a lot?
They shouldn't itch a LOT. It very well could be allergies. My mix boy has allergies. Excess itching can and will cause bald patches.
I'd get a second opinion from another vet.
